About Areté Education
Areté Education, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit agency that trains and empowers historically under-served students to lead successful lives, by partnering with local schools and community groups to grow investment in New York City youth. Areté builds academic, wellness, leadership, and career readiness skills for students and provides immersion in the arts and cultural experiences. Our year-round programming includes after-school programs, summer sessions, and family interventions for students and families in the South Bronx, Washington Heights, and Bed-Stuy.
Our mission is to develop and empower youth to lead successful, purpose-driven lives by closing the experience gap through high-quality programming and enrichment in education, financial literacy, STEM, the arts, and health. We craft comprehensive wraparound programs - afterschool, summer school, weekend sports and career connected learning.
We deliver 5,000 extra hours of academic and extracurricular experiences each year to students:
• CAREERS: paid internships, financial literacy, STEM mentorship, jobs
• LITERACY: tutoring, books, computers
• WELLNESS: healthy meals, social emotional learning, and team sports
• ARTS: dance, media production, visual arts, trips to cultural institutions
Our approach delivers results, at our flagship partner school, The Laboratory School of Finance and Technology, 97% of seniors graduated on time, and 76% enrolled in post-secondary education.
Arete Education plays a vital role in the South Bronx, Washington Heights, and Bedford-Stuyvesant providing wraparound support services to 1,500 students and families annually. These communities represent some of the most underserved populations in New York State.
