October at P.S. 59 was filled with excitement, creativity, and community spirit! From making slime to costume parades, the month was packed with activities that celebrated learning, teamwork, and the season’s festive spirit. Here’s a look back at some of the highlights from October.
Slime Party
The month kicked off with a fun and sticky event for 3K/PreK students. To reward those who had perfect attendance from September 15th to October 17th, a Slime Party was hosted. Students had the chance to make their own Halloween-themed slime, which they took home in a personalized jar. After the slime-making session, students enjoyed a pizza party, sharing their slime-making stories and brainstorming ideas for future activities. Towards the end of the day, each student received an attendance certificate, celebrating their dedication to showing up every day. This event was a great way to encourage and reward good attendance!

Fall Festival Trip: A Day at Naval Cemetery Landscape
Students were invited to the Naval Cemetery Landscape for a Fall Festival that combined nature, music, and festive fun! The event featured a mini pumpkin patch, live bluegrass music, and plenty of seasonal activities. The highlight for our students was the costume parade, where everyone got to dress up and show off their creative costumes. This year, the theme was “Pollinators” in honor of the meadow on the site, which fosters over 90 native plant species that support pollinators like bees and butterflies. Our students embraced the theme wholeheartedly! Girls dressed as butterflies in shades of pink, purple, and green, while boys dressed as bees, sporting black and yellow or all-black outfits. This event was a beautiful way to celebrate fall, nature, and community outdoors!

Spirit Week
During Spirit Week, students were encouraged to get creative with their outfits throughout the week, showing off their school spirit in the most fun and silly ways. Each day came with its own exciting theme. On Monster Monday, students dressed in blue or green for Team Sully vs. Team Mike. On Troll Tuesday, students styled their hair in colorful crazy ways. On Spooky Sock Day Wednesday, students wore their spookiest Halloween socks, followed by Witch/Wizard Thursday, where students wore hats of different shapes and sizes. The week wrapped up with Freaky Friday, as students arrived in school-appropriate costumes to celebrate Halloween activities. The halls were full of laughter as students participated in the daily costume challenges. This week-long event was a fun way to build excitement and get everyone ready for the Halloween celebration!

Halloween Celebration
To end off the month, students enjoyed the grand Halloween Celebration where they participated in a wide variety of activities throughout the day, including fun STEM experiments, arts & crafts, and relay games! One of the highlights was the fizzy potion experiment, where students mixed their own magical concoctions and watched as they fizzed and bubbled. In arts and crafts, the students painted their own pumpkins. The mummy wrap relay game brought out some friendly competition, and students couldn’t wait to race to wrap their friends in toilet paper. The celebration culminated in a parade down the block where parents lined the streets to cheer for their little ones as they proudly wore their costumes. Each student went home with a goodie bag filled with candy and snacks!

Between slime-making, parades, and Halloween crafts, students had an incredible time celebrating the season while building connections with one another! Thank you to everyone who worked together to foster a sense of community, creativity, and learning for all of our students.
