This past summer at P.S. 28 Wright Brothers, 120 students discovered new passions, developed friendships, and grew as learners through an exciting mix of enrichment programs and field experiences. The program officially began on Wednesday, July 2, welcoming students to weeks of creativity, movement, and social-emotional growth.
At P.S. 28, students participated in a diverse range of activities including Music, SEL (Social-Emotional Learning), Dance, Arts & Crafts, and Sports & Wellness. Each offering was designed to nurture both mind and body, encouraging students to express themselves, build confidence, and work collaboratively. In Music, students explored different genres and instruments while learning to sing and perform together. They also gained hands-on experience identifying and playing various musical instruments. SEL sessions centered on self-awareness and emotional growth through creative, engaging projects such as Lava Lamps, Mind Jars, Magic Inflating Balloons, SEL Vent Jars, Slime, and more. These activities helped students reflect on emotions, practice mindfulness, and strengthen communication and empathy. In Dance, each grade had its own specific choreography tailored to music of their choice, ranging from upbeat pop hits to energetic hip-hop tracks. Students brought enthusiasm and creativity to their performances as they prepared for the end-of-summer showcase. Arts & Crafts invited imagination and skill-building through a variety of projects. Students created still life drawings, designed keychains and bracelets, experimented with abstract art, and explored countless other hands-on creations that encouraged personal expression. In Sports & Wellness, each week featured a new theme designed to offer students a variety of physical and team-based activities. From team-building exercises to free play, students participated in games like dodgeball, steal the bacon, basketball, bean bag toss, leg races, and the classic spoon-and-egg race—developing teamwork, fitness, and perseverance along the way.

Students at P.S. 28 experienced a rich lineup of field trips, including visits to the American Museum of Natural History, Bronx Zoo, New York Botanical Gardens, Uno’s Pizzeria, Trip to an AMC Theater to see The Smurfs, and Bowling. These trips connected classroom lessons to the world beyond school, reinforcing teamwork, curiosity, and hands-on learning.

The P.S. 28 summer program reflected Arete’s commitment to creating joyful, inclusive environments where every student could thrive. Through art, movement, and exploration, students built skills and memories that will last well beyond the summer months and prepare them for this academic school year!
